Need I.D for orange butterfly please!


Would be a handsome wee thing if something hadn't chewed it's butt! Anyhoo, would be grateful if someone could give him a name.

Not only is it a small copper but it is also the abberation caeruleopunctata.

Does the 'aberration' refer to the blue spots on the rear wings? That's what threw me,I looked at the Copper but no blue spots.Are they particularly scarce in Scotland? Thanks for the info.

Yep, it's the blue spots that the caeruleopunctata refers to. There are a few different forms of Small Copper and this one is quite common in north Scotland.
