| | | Black butterfly Hello all
Sorry no picture
But walking in Hamshire field at weekend and saw a black butterfly with black wings with red ends about half way down which went to the ends of the wing, and in the middle of the red piece there were identical black spots.
No red border around the wing.
I have been searching online and cannot find what sort it is. Maybe you guys might be able to help my curiosity?
Thanks

| | | Re: Black butterfly Hi James, sorry I don't know your background, but I suggest it might have been a day-flying moth if you can't find a picture of a butterfly. There are several black and pink/red ones. Have a look at Burnet or Cinnabar, for example. HTH.

| | | Re: Black butterfly Thanks for replies so soon.
Background wise I'm just your average dog walker in Hampshire who wanders around slightly head in the clouds looking at the counrtyside, which I've been fortunate to live in since a wee lad.
Checked out the ideas you suggested and the Cinnabar is close although the whole of the wing tip was red with a black spot in the red and no other markings apart from that. The rest of the wing was black.
If I do find a pic I'll copy it up but all my search efforts are hitting a wall at the mo.
