| | | Re: holiday butterflies I believe Monarchs are established there now, which are superb butterflies to see; haven't visited the Canaries yet- have a good trip. You can guarentee Painted Ladies as well! |

| | | Re: holiday butterflies Here are some of the butterflys i saw. I did see a few painted ladys, some whites maybe large whites but they were always flying quite high and i didnt see one settle. Loads of what i think are longtailed blues, and several clouded yellows. If anyone could id the 3ed one id be gratefull. Thanks

| | | Re: holiday butterflies It's a South African lycaenid- the Geranium Bronze- that has become established in places such as Spain, Balearics, Canaries, arriving with imported Pelargoniums, on which the larvae can be a pest.
There were some UK records a few years back, but as it's continuously brooded, like Painted Lady, it can't survive our winters outdoors. |
