Does anyone know what this butterfly is? I looked on the UK Butterflies "what's flying at the moment", and it doesn't look like anything on there. Couldn't get a pic of the upperside, hopefully someone will recognise it though.

Agree painted lady. We saw a very battered one last week as well. I guess if you`ve flew from Africa & suffered our variable weather you would look tatty

It certainly did look battered, I will have a good look round the area tomorrow and see if there are any more. Thanks all for the id.

It seems to have been a great year for Painted Ladies so far, I've noticed hundreds around my area yet not one last year.
