I’ am no great expert on Butterflies but I think I agree with Cheryl, with those small dots on the hind wing and its small size, I think that’s a Buttercup that its sitting on, suggest Small Heath to me.

The others are correct- it is a Small Heath. The Meadow Browns should start appearing soon though! |

Oops, wrong again! Definitely Meadow Browns at Newtown NR on the IoW this week though and the first Marbled Whites (and I saw a Grizzled Skipper). | | | |
