| | | Lizard Painted Lady's Made a return visit to the Lizard in Cornwall this weekend. Saw a couple of Painted Lady's on Saturday, but on Sunday I seemed to be putting one up every step. By far the commonest butterfly.
Monday morning I did an early morning walk on Dartmoor and saw three flying in the rain around Belstone Tor, then in the afternoon saw one in my parents garden in North Somerset. They have been seen in Gloucestershire too.
Is this the start on another 'Painted Lady Year'? How far north are they.

| | | Re: Lizard Painted Lady's On 29th May I witnessed a sight I have not seen in 60 years of observing nature, a mass butterfly (more precisely Painted Lady) migration.
On my way home from town 5 miles away I noticed the volume of butterflies, so when I got home I counted the number passing a fixed point 100yards away in the field behind the house. Staggeringly this came out at 50 per minute, and that is just the ones I could count / see! This went on for hours! A rough calculation means that in an hour over that 5 mile distance 264000 butterflies have gone passed! |
