| | | Re: Please identify this butterfly Quite, there are Gatekeepers about which look similar ( http://www.countrysideinfo.co.uk/insects.htm ) but these have a double white spot inside the tip marking as opposed to the single white spot of the meadow brown: http://arglist.com/cgi-bin/image?gal...e=20050716-006 also the MB is much plainer elsewhere! | | | Re: Please identify this butterfly Just uisng the first view quick id principle, I thought meadow brown. It looks as if there's 1 white spot in dark spot on the underside of the forwing. Any closer shots ?

| | | Re: Please identify this butterfly Judging by its size compared with the bracken fronds it is a Meadow Brown. Gatekeepers are more "orangey". |

| | | Re: Please identify this butterfly Many thanks for all your help, it's very much appreciated.
I have now changed the caption to say it's a Meadow Brown.
Many thanks
