I have heard that Painted lady butterflies V cardui are making their way north from North Africa to southern France in good numbers. Lets see who is first to spot these this year it will almost certainly be Southern counties.

I've heard that too Lance. I was out on a walk earlier this week with a lovely lady from Hampshire (& Isle of Wight) Butterfly Conservation and she mentioned it.
I shall be keeping my eyes peeled  didn't see a single one last year  |

Brilliant, the last time i saw them in good numbers was 2007 in Lincolnshire.
They are one of my favourite butterflies.

I heard a report of one in West Sussex last week. Have yet to see any for definite myself this year. |

It would be great to see one this year as I didn't see any last year. 2008 was terrible for migrant lepidioptera in general, I had very few migrant moths apart from Silver Y's.
I haven't seen a Clouded Yellow since 2006, so that would be nice too! |

Painted Lady - Cynthia cardui
have been in Glastonbury Somerset for about two weeks now this one was in Glastonbury Abbey on th 15/4/2009 
not the best photo but it's the only one I could get
