I count myself lucky as today I saw my first Comma butterfly of the year.
That's 3 species within a few weeks of each other. I'm a happy bunny.

Good to hear of your sighting Jules.
I haven't seen a butterfly so far this year, I have started having dreams about Dragonflies though.
I really must try photographing other things this year.  |

My first butterfly of the year was also a comma, sunning on a street wall. I've been looking at first dates for commas and they seem very variable: mid-March 2000, 2003, 2005, 2009 but md-May in 2002; otherwise mid-April. I wonder why all 'mid-' every first appearance has been between 19-23 of the month? |

In Kew Gardens on Sunday, saw many Commas, a few brimstones (male & female) and a single red admiral. They were my first butterflies of the year. Long may this warm weather continue.

Saw my first butterfly of the year yesterday: another comma! Sunning itself on the pergola, looked very new. Went in for camera, and guess what...

I have had 2 Abrimstone and a small redish brown which flew over the garden but quiet high so not able to identify.
