| | | Re: butterfly id The Orange spots on its wings say that it is female probably a Common Blue, (where did you see it?) if seen in the relevant areas would not rule out female Chalkhill or Adonis Blues. The females of blue butterflies often have some blue on the wings, Scottish and Irish (and Isle of Man) Common Blues often have the brown completely replaced by blue but retain the orange spots. |

| | | Re: butterfly id I saw it locally, S.Wales and the habitat was sand dunes and conifer woods, it was very small as well. I did think it might be a Silver-Studded Blue.

| | | Re: butterfly id Thank all. Female Common Blue then. My trouble is I only look at the photographs in the butterfly book so if I can't see one similar I ask You. I must start reading the descriptions as well I think, or get a bokk that shows male and female.
Thanks

| | | Re: butterfly id If you saw it between late June and early August I would not rule out the Silver-studded Blue. As it does occur in a few places in South Wales (around the Mumbles I think) South Wales. However I would still tend to stay with the Common Blue. The Common Blue is often very small in size. |
