| | | Re: small orange butterfly Lovely photo + 1 of my favourite butterflies. I remember some years ago I was watching several nectaring on Ragwort in Richmond Park, Surrey when a Hornet came + took one. Sadly she came back + yet another was taken. Sad, but nature at work! |

| | | Re: small orange butterfly Hi,
Thanks.
This butterfly is another species I havent seen before, like the Southern Hawker in my other thread.
Ive only been insect spotting for about three years but this year Ive seen a few species that I havent seen before, I especially like Hoverflies and this year I have seen a few species that are new to me, maybe its the hot wet summer we are having !
Heres two more new ones to me
Look at the goggly eyes on this one ! |

| | | Re: small orange butterfly I think it is a male small copper, the female has tiny "tails" to the hind wings A quite widespread butterfly found throughout most of the UK, but erratic and localised. It feeds on various sorrels. A good way to attract it to you garden is to grow some French Sorrel.
If you live in a town and have no garden you can still try growing the french sorrel and a few suitable "butterfly" flowers in a window box as this butterfly is frequently found in urban areas. |
