The blackthorn leaves are starting to drop making the brown hairstreak eggs easier to find and I am pleased to say that there are yet again brown hairstreak eggs around here, including in my garden.

You are incredibly lucky Susie, wish I had them in my garden.
I spent a day at Chambers farm wood in Lincolnshire back in late August in pursuit of Brown Hairstreaks and saw quite a few buzzing around the tops of the tall Blackthorn bushes, thankfully I was eventually rewarded with a single female that came down to my height to briefly lay her eggs, not brilliant views or images but I was more than happy just to see one.





One of the guys I was with did manage to find a single egg to show me, I tried to photograph it but it was in shade deep into the bush on a branch junction, hence the result was less than sharp!

The best part about getting to see and photograph the Brown Hairstreak was that it completed my quest to see and photograph all 5 of the British Hairstreak species in one year

They are great little butterflies, aren't they?

Congratulations on seeing all five hairstreak species, that is something I have not achieved.
