Butterfly Encyclopedia Help

We're currently putting together more info for the butterfly encyclopedia, and we could you really do with some help to add a lot more detail to each of the species. If you can spare a few moments, please take a look at the list and fill in any gaps where you find then (there are quite a few at the moment ).

To edit a particular species, simply click on its title to view its full page, then click on the 'edit' tab at the bottom of the screen.

The complete butterflies list can be found at:

http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/li...h-butterflies/

Thanks

Stu

Looks like I needed to still make a couple of changes to the permissions - could you give it another try and see if you can edit them now.

There's no need to be an expert cherrybee, you can grab the info from books, websites, the forums etc, and as long as it's written in your own words there shouldn't be any issue with copyright.

Almost everything that goes into the encyclopedia is fact, so it's just a case of finding the facts and filling in the boxes.

If you get anything wrong along the way, other members can add/edit the content so it will naturally correct itself and stay up-to-date.

Re: Butterfly Encyclopedia Help

Hi cb,

You should be able to see a couple of instruction boxes in the right column of the butterfly pages. Let me know if it doesn't show up and I'll see if I've left something out of the page's template.

Yes I see those but when I hover the only link that seems to be working is register. The symbol of a pencil which I thought would work doesnt nor does the plus one

Edit: Am I stupid or what hehehe.I already found how to edit the various butterflies but just could not work out how to add one.Not that I have one but never mind.I thought the buttons were the link
I then went to the add box and it says there to click here to add to the mammel list.Mind you that was slightly confusing.Of course when I clicked that lo and behold there was all the different species and the means to add etc. I am a daft so and so sometimes but I do get there in the end

Glad I am not the only one that assumed that the + button was what you have to press but look further down where it says to click to add to mammels and the page comes up to be able to add to drop down lists for various stuff

Re: Butterfly Encyclopedia Help

Welcome - otter - and thanks for your contribution so far (plenty to read on the Clouded Yellow). And to you, cherrybee, for doing some editing.

I hope you'll find it as satisfying as I do - I love pulling together information and then building up a text 'picture' on the A - Z. All my own work!

Carry on compiling.

Tink

Hi Otter,

The add graphic was meant to be graphic, rather than a button, but I've made it into a button now. You should also be able to use the links at the bottom of the 'Add a ...' box in the right column, and there's another one in the left-hand column under 'create content'

That's excellent Stu...I added a little content for the Dark green fritillary and now off to add an entry for the Pale clouded yellow

Re: Butterfly Encyclopedia Help

Hello there, just noticed this thread...how nice that you can help contribute to the site, I'm new you see and I have plenty of free time today ...just had a go at the clouded yellow entry, hope it's ok, I'm afraid I don't have a photo though.

Just noticed that you don't have an entry at all in the list for the Pale clouded yellow (Colias hyale) which is simmilar to Berger's clouded yellow but the male of the Berger's has a deeper lemon shade.

Hi Otter,

Thanks for helping out.

As much as possible, we try to make this everyone's site, with the facility for all members to help shape and develop the webpages - so it ultimately becomes the type of resource that you want to use.

I've just added a clouded yellow pic to your details

Cheers

Stu

Smile Re: Butterfly Encyclopedia Help Red Admiral

I don't know if this is the sort of info you are after, but, As a younyster i was told that the Red Admiral was named so because a Naval Admiral wears a Red Sash, diagonaly, reminiscent of the diagonal stripe on the butterfly! rgds, tony
