I am a new member and trying but having trouble uploading pics of the large tortoiseshell which is presently fluttering & feeding in my garden daily...like today. Can you please help me achieve my aim as I would love to share the experience of witnessing the wonderful shy butterfly

Large tortoiseshell? This species is now I believe extinct in Britain.

I also read that it is extinct here with only 150 recorded since 1951...or so it says on this site....but this beauty could have fluttered in from afar...whatever...it is awesome to witness it ....and in the Autumn ! wish I could share the pics with you. Going back out in the garden to await its return....

Any chance you could link the photo somehow? If you do really have a Large Tortoiseshell it'll be great to see a pic

...sorry ...its a common coma butterfly...I got it wrong did'nt I...I will have to wait a it longer to see a tortoiseshell ...

Definately a Comma.
As already mentioned a Large Tortoiseshell is very unlikely to appear. I think Comma's are great looking butterflies, and usually quite confiding for photographing
