| | | Swallotail Butterfly Detail Hello, well i've seen my first Swallowtail butterflies & i've got to say that they're seriously impressive.I managed to get 12 sightings of what i think are 8-10 seperate butterflies. One landed for 30secs & got 4 photos before it flew off. They turned out not too good though.I'd managed to just cut of the edge of one wing in the only open winged photo i got.I' very very gutted, lol.
But i've tried to make the most of what i did get & i like the way this photos turned out.I wish it was a bit sharper but this is an almost 100% crop so it's not too bad.
Hope you like it.

| Yo Alan it was simply great to see the Swallowtails, they kept landing but it was always somewhere that i couldn't get to.Like the otherside of some water or in the middle of huge blackberry bushes, lol.Or they'd just cruise by real fast & just wind me up coz i couldn't see where'd they'd gone, lol.

realy beautiful shot! Did you go really early? I'm finding inverts much easier to see (let alone photograph) when it's still cool and they're not properly fired up yet - they are harder to find though.........
I'd love to see these! Not sure iof I'll have time this year though.... what time do they stop flying? |

| Yo Gill,i also really liked the way this one turned out. Thanks for the comments.
I didn't go early,i'm really useless at getting up before 10/11am,lol.I was chasing these around at 2pm in the blazing sunshine til about 5ish.Then they seemed to dissappear.
They stop flying second week in July but sometimes there's a second brood in August. So you might get a chance to see them.
Here's a good link with info on flight times & where to find them. Swallowtail Info Quote:
