Butterfly ID help required please

Hi everyone

Please bear with me, as I'm new to studying butterflies,so am not that knowledgable on the them.

I had a day out at Minsmere today where I took a photo of a butterfly of which I am not sure what type it is (photo is below).

If anyone can answer this, I would appreciate it.

It's a Speckled Wood

Yes a Speckled wood, it looks like your specimen has a withered hind-wing on the left.

Thanks very much for your replies - a new butterfly I now know (makes a grand total of 3)!

Yes, it wasn't until I'd uploaded the photos to the computer, that I noticed the butterfly had a withered wing (at the time of photographing it, I was too busy trying to kneel and not topple over trying to take a photo, hence I didn't notice it at first!). The butterfly was on a plant very close to the ground. Wonder what would have caused it.

yeah its a small copper - well done for getting it - these guys don't tend to hang around for too long

found this along with brown argus and small heath today - the b.argus hung around but the others didn't....

Thanks very much for your help, sorry for keeping on asking for ID'ing. It's not that I'm lazy, I do try and ID them, only the ones I can't ID are uploaded and mentioned in the threads.

Pete - thanks very much for that link, you would not believe how helpful that is to me!
I will try that link in future, as it looks very thorough and descriptive.
