Butterfly help please

I have looked through my stuff but cannot pin this one down. I could not get behind it to show the wings from the rear. It does look somewhat moth eaten but I do not know if this due to its age. In view of the irregular nature of the wings outline, I have thought about Comma or a fritillary but without success.

Can nyone help, please?

I agree, it does look like a Painted Lady one butterfly I haven't seen this year.

Thank you all. She does look a bit bedraggled. There is a thread asking about the occurence of these butterflies and I, correctly at that time, replied that I had seen none. I did check my books to confirm what it looked like especially as I had never knowingly seen one before. Quite exciting.
