Can anyone help with IDing this butterfly please. I have been looking through various books and the nearest seems to be Brown Argus but it doesn't look right.
The upperwings were brownish (I didn't get a good view of them).
It was photographed on coastal sanddunes in Jersey

Looks like a Brown Argus - on the underside hind wing two of the spots line up to form a colon. Might be worth looking here: Brown Argus and female Common Blue |

It is definitely either a Brown Argus or a female Common Blue. It can't be any other species of Blue because the rest don't have such bright orange spots on both underwings. And, it can't be a Northern Brown Argus because they are not found on Jersey. Have a look at the links below to help you. The first is of a Brown Argus and the second is of a female Common Blue. I'd go with Brown Argus as well. The extra spot is clearly visible. | | |
