| | | Peacock butterfly I can't believe it, I saw what I thought was a dead leaf on the grass this morning. As I approached it flew off into the long grass. Then I watched as it opened its wings.
I have never been so excited, it was a peacock butterfly, I've never seen one here before; by here I mean in Lossiemouth, Scotland.
I looked it up to confirm its species and fetched my camera but it had flown away before I could get a picture.
Is this a new addition to the north east of Scotland or have I just not seen them around before?

Guardian. | Peacocks are not particularly common in your part of Scotland - it may be a new area for them. Butterfly Conservation would probably like to know of the record.

| | | Re: Peacock butterfly Hi There again
This time I managed to get a photo, not a very goo done I grant you but I think it's possible to make out the variety of butterfly.
I took the photo this morning in my garden.

| | | Re: Peacock butterfly Isn't the peacock butterfly magnificent. We see them most years here north of Perth (Coupar Angus), but usually they appear well into the summer.
Do you get orange tips in Lossiemouth ? I saw the first for this year in Dunkeld about a week ago. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
