Saw the verdict on tv news tonight. Should have been given much longer sentences and higher fines, imho, but I guess we should be thankful that they didn’t all get off with a slap on the wrist and a suspended sentence.
For those WABbers who didn't see/receive Yorkshire news...
Four of the men were were jailed for 16 weeks and ordered to pay £850 in costs, but expected to be released on licence after 8 weeks, after pleading not guilty.
Two were given 12-week jail sentences suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay £350 in costs after pleading guilty.
The seventh (a teenager) was served with a year's supervision order requiring 10 sessions with the RSPCA.
Apparently
‘Relatives of the gang sat in tears in court as the four were taken away in handcuffs by security guards.’
....Shedding tears over the cruelty their relatives had inflicted? ...Or shedding tears that their relatives were being jailed as a punishment for their crime?
Little Mele, I want to thank you for all the help and work you do to help protect and care for our native badgers. I didn't participate in your earlier thread on this case as I couldn't find any words at the time to express how I felt (without me getting banned on WAB).
Keep up the excellent work you do
