| | | Fishing on Skye Hello
I am a new member so my apologies if this has already been addressed.
I am taking my dad to Skye next April for 2 weeks and I know he will be keen to go sea fishing. Unfortunately my dad is now not the most mobile of dad's so it would need to be flat shore fishing or from a pier.
I was hoping for some advice on places that I could take him that has good access and a decent chance of him catching some fish!!
We will be staying in Portree and I was hoping that the fishing from the harbor there might be good?
Also I would be interested in hiring a boat to take him out fishing.
Any ideas comments would be most welcome.
Many thanks

| | | Re: Fishing on Skye Hi Lindsey and welcome to WAB.
I spend a good deal of time on Skye and know a few people up there. Fishing from Portree pier is not really an option, as you will see when you get up there
The coastline of north Skye (and the rest of the island, really) is predominately rocky with very few beaches that are easily accessible.
A friend of mine who lives in Uig, which is 15 miles north of Portree is an angling guide, although I think he specialises in river fishing. He is, however a super chap and I'm sure he will be able to help and give advice. Uig pier is also a much better bet for fishing from as well.

Hope this helps. Regards Charlie.
PS. If you have any probs with this, PM me and I'll try to sort it out.

| | | Re: Fishing on Skye Staffin Pier, about 16 miles north of Portree isn't bad. The last time I was there I had a two pound pollock, spinning. A pal of mine had a good day on Milovaig pier last year too, with him and his missus getting a bagful of pollock, again using lures/spinners. Neist Point is good too, but a bit of a rough walk to get to it.
Let us know how you get on. You shouldn't have any trouble getting a boat either, though you will be a bit early for the mackerel shoals.
