Jim | Jim that is exactly the problem. Too many people coming to these conclusions. Anything that gives off CO2 contributes to the global problem we are all suffering from today and will in the future. No matter how small the contribution it all adds up.
This thread started with a basic device that was claimed to emit minimal amounts of harmful gases but it appears to be near ending at the opposite end of the spectrum.

You don't have to be dead accurate - 3 decimal places would do!

Jim | Jim if we were ALL doing it very considerable. Everyone has to be responsible for the way they use all forms of energy no matter how insignificant it may seem to be. If everyone used devices on the basis that theirs was not contributing greatly to the environmental problems we would be in an even greater state, than we are currently in. The quicker more people understood this the better.
For example, one car on its own may add very little in the way of pollution but when all cars on the road are taken into consideration it is a MAJOR CONTRIBUTING FACTOR. Your heaters are no different
Any device that emits CO2 should be used as sparingly as possible and only if there is no better alternative.
The AIM all over the World is to reduce CO2 emissions. That means you and I and everyone like us.

| | | Re: Dog Food Can Wood Burning Stove. So you're saying that I shouldn't go camping, because any camping stove I may use adds to the CO2 in the atmosphere?
BTW, assuming the 2 dogs in you atavar are yours, I'll bet they emit more CO2 than my camping stove! Also, are you a smoker by any chance?

Jim | No Jim I never said you shouldn't go camping and I never said you shouldn't use your stoves unless you could use a cleaner alternative.
And YES Jim 2 dogs may emit more CO2 than your camping stove but is there an alternative to guide dogs??
All living creatures emit CO2 including all the birds and wildlife that we on WAB are so much interested in and also us humans who are the largest contributors by far when it comes to CO2 emissions.
And No Jim I have never smoked.

John D | James Lovelock talks about the "Three C's": Cars, Cows and Chainsaws. Use your car less, eat less meat and encourage trees and plants.
Incidentally, burning a few dead twigs won't increase CO2 that much - the energy in it is 'modern sunlight' rather than the 'ancient sunlight' bound up in fossil fuels. Just make sure you don't take too much. |

| | Re: Dog Food Can Wood Burning Stove. A well made stove, it has to be said, bushcraft on a budget, but for those of us who are just too lazy to make our own, The Honey Stove is a handy piece of kit, light-weight, compact and very fuel efficient, half a carrier bag full of hawthorn, ash andoak twigs kept my stove burning through the night on a recent fishing trip. There is also a conversion kit for the stove, 2 extra side pieces and a larger bottom plate, which significantly increases your cooking area, and there is also a grill stand available. my wife bought it for me last chrimbo and is a constant companion tucked away in my man bag, great for an impromtu brew or just to warm you, as it throws off a suprising amount of heat considering its size |

John D | wood fuel is carbon neutral, folks, wood uses carbon in its production, so the carbon released on burning has already been taken out of the environment in its production, so its not adding to the amount of carbon already present in the atmosphere. There acertain types of fungus that will burn as well, cramp balls or king alfred's cakes ( Daldinia concentrica ), will burn like charchoal, i wouldn't have thought burning that would do much harm either. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
