| | | Kelly or Eydon Storm kettle I am wanting to buy one of the above kettles on line but as I am in Australia I cannot compare the two to see what differences there are.
Could anyone on this forum help me with quality etc. I know the Eldon Storm is slightly dearer but is it any better? Also are they made out of the same thickness aluminium?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

| | | Re: Kelly or Eydon Storm kettle I can't answer your question Dave but as a regular user of a 35+ year old Kelly and one who is totally happy with it, go for one of those. Keep it clean, tidy and dry to prevent aluminium corrosion and it'll serve you well. |

| | | Re: Kelly or Eydon Storm kettle Before you buy, have a good ol' google search, see what people think. Personally I had a heck of a job getting/keeping the fire going. Wierd or what? Then I spotted that as the water warmed up it started to leak out, onto the fire, which kind of subdues it somewhat! So I had gone home 3 or 4 times with a large and dirty kettle, stinking of smoke (as I was forever attending the fire) thinking I'll get the hang of it one day. The day never came, it went back. |

| | | Re: Kelly or Eydon Storm kettle Since posting the original query I have received and used my Eydon kettle on several ocasions with fantastic results. Never had a problem with leaks or lighting it, usually get boiling water within 3-4 minuites on average.
Am I happy with it, hell yea.

| | | Re: Kelly or Eydon Storm kettle Hmm, I've inspected them in an outdoor shop, and baulked at the fearsome price - £35 for the smallest.
I'll stick to a conventional camping stove. You can't cook in a Kelly kettle, they're also too bulky to trek with.

| | | Re: Kelly or Eydon Storm kettle i tend to agree jim - i go wth a trangia or an msr dragonfly for combination of heat and portability - that said kellys are very good for working parties if you are burning anyway - because you can get them going dead fast with a shovel full of embers - and yes i know you could just put a kettle on the fire , but some working party fires are so big the kettle would either get buried, melt, or both.

| | | Re: Kelly or Eydon Storm kettle Having followed this thread with interest, and reading the posts, I can smell the woodsmoke and see the flames shooting out of the top of my kelly so when I take the dog into the woods this afternoon I'm going to take the kettle. You boys who fiddle with gas, meths and petrol, just think of me gathering the smallest dry yew twigs by the handfull and enjoying an old enamelled mug full of steaming Russian caravan tea whilst watching the setting sun go down.
I'll think of you enjoying the romance of mopping up spilt meths, stinging hands when it gets into cuts on the hands and the smell!
There's no contest is there?
For those with the real thing- eucalyptus bark starts burning well if you can get some.
Whatever you use, enjoy doing it outdoors and have a Happy Christmas. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
