I read that he died last week. Wondered if anyone else here enjoyed reading his books & magazine contributions too?

89 he was apparently, & still writing recently for that magazine. I have mostly read his angling writings, in which he really captured the essence of the sport, no doubt his writing on other country pursuits did the same.

Sad to hear that he has died . I actually met the guy once about 20 years ago at a fishing exhibition he was a very down to earth man. I always felt that he was somewhat unfairly overshadowed by Richard Walker many of Freds books are as foward thinking and technically edvanced as RW.

I think that the quality of his writing far exceeds that of RW such titles as "Angling in Earnest " are superb pieces of writing and the "Fishing for Tench" book was technically brilliant. Successful Angling although in a very unusual style brought Taylor / Walker and Falkus together surely three of the most influential angling writers of the 20th Century....
