Traditional long bow

I want to get into archery but I don't want anything with sights and carbon fibre!- Can anyone suggest a supplier / craftsman who can offer the traditional yew longbow in the UK?

Re: Traditional long bow

Thanks eeyore - I used to have a bow when I was a youngster and tried a longbow at one of the counrty fairs. I would like my own bow again but not interested in modern materials and accessories. A genuine yew bow would be a work of art!

Re: Traditional long bow

i got your pm and have passed your details along - i guess he'll be in touch in the near future ( I told him to pass it onto bowyer freinds if he wasnt interested in the custom himself)

a well made yew bow is certainly a work of art - but expect to pay work of art prices

Re: Traditional long bow

Ooh i love archery. I just sold my longbow/arrows/bracer and hand protector on eBay as i bought a new fangled recurve. I still shoot barebow though. I found the longbow to be too strong for me. Im a little weakling!

Re: Traditional long bow

I don't know if all the ancient laws have now been cancelled but it was not so very long ago I read that it was still on the status books that all males reaching 14yrs (if I remember right) of age are obliged to learn the art of the long bow can you imagine it today with all the o.t.t. health and safety rules. I was a real tomboy when I was young and lucky enough to live in the country not too far from where we do now, Robin Hood with Richard Green was one of the most popular telly programmes and we had homemade bows that we made from willow, we also made our own quiver and arrows , we used to play in a big wood which is a housing estate now what with that and playing cowboys and indians I think the 'swat' team would have been very busy in our area if people were as keen to get in panic mode over toy weapons as they are today.
