Top stuff austringer!
My Dad went on a days hawking with an experienced local falconer (I assume you are a falconer, not an interested observer like him) t'other day, with 2 Harris Hawks.
He enjoyed it immensely!
The two birds were literally walking (hopping) along the bushes/hedges behind the falconer/my father like 2 dogs! Until they spotted something, then up and down they went and made the kill.
Its become clear to me over the years that the birds are (or at least, seem to be) incredibly lazy sometimes!
Hope the Sloe Gin is good!
Cheers
Doug

Re: falconry

Sounds like a nice day out Roy. Do you have some pictures of your birds so I can wonder in their splendidness?

I'm hoping to get out over the next few weekends, have been offered the chance to tag along with some goldies, which makes me rather excited

Are you a member of the IFF or FQ forums? My user name on both is Aquila Chrysaetos. I notice there are a few other members on this forum *waves* Don't post much, just read mostly

Re: falconry

Hey Austringer.
He's a very interested observer, not a falconer.
But... I think now that he's moved back to Scotland though, and retired, he'll look at ways of getting MUCH more involved.

Ps- that quote of yours:
"Too many Know alls, not enough know hows". Like it!
Doug

Couldn't agree more re IFF. I try to read the useful stuff and ignore the bickering (which can be pretty difficult!) Look forward to your pics

Re: falconry

I did a falconry course years ago and was a member of the British Hawking Association for a year, but I haven't been out as an observer for nearly 2 years now.

Do any of you get International Falconry magazine? I really enjoy that

Re: falconry

Falconry is the most purist of the field sports, you get to see some majestic Birds of Prey fly and Hunt which brings you real close to nature.
