| | | Fishing line again I was very sad to see this Moorhen limping about on the farm I do most of my bird photography, it has fishing line around its right foot the line has balled up under the foot and the moorhen has a pronounced limp. I with the farmer have tried to capture the bird; I fear it will only be caught when it is too injured or weak to be saved. I as a fisherperson feel embarrassed to see the amount of line involved; it is possible to restrict the amount of line lost even if it is snapped in use. I do worry that this line was just discarded.

| | | Re: Fishing line again I work in a country Park, and sadly your story about the moorhen Neil is all too familiar. I would like to state however that the majority of most fisherpersons are responsible, indeed iv had many a chat with some lovely fisher-folk who have a deep love and respect for the countryside and its creatures, sadly however there seems to be a select few that let the side down and behave irresponsibly. I would like to praise the work of help organisations such as swan rescue who rescued 3 swans at the country park last year and do a truely fantastic job!

| | | Re: Fishing line again Sadly Nicole there are allways those who behave badly...Dogwalkers who dont clear up,, Walkers who drop litter, Birdwatchers who are in such a rush to see the latest vagrant they leave gates open and trample everything in their way..Sadly we just have to tolerate and encourage people to be better

| | | Re: Fishing line again when i used to do a lot of freshwater fishing me and a mate saw a swan with line round his leg and neck we managed to lure it to the bank with some bread then when it was close enough whipped the landing net over its head(not very dignified for the swan) and my mate jumped in and caught it while we were cutting the line of it was calm as can be almost as if it knew what we were doing the out come was the following year the same swan and his mate raised 5 healthy cygnets.where is if he'd of just been left who knows what his fait would of been.
