| | | Re: Passion for Angling I know what daubentons are but I certainly wouldn't know what they looked like.
I suppose one bat looks like another to an untrained eye.

| | | Re: Passion for Angling well i made an educated guess at daubentons because they were skimming the water and thats generally what daubentons do, but it could have been any medium sized bat i spose...

I once had a big dragonfly that kept on landing on my bare knee, I was nervous at first, but he only wanted to sunbathe, got a photo somewhere. | | | Re: Passion for Angling Hi all.
I've not had Kingfishers on the rod, they would need a very good grip as I fly fish.
Fishing the upper reaches of rivers I constantly see kingfishers, dippers, grey wagtails and the like as well as deer, stoat, otter, colonies of sand martins, Buzzards, Red Kites not to mention mayfly hatches, the list goes on and on.
On one of our rivers up here in Yorkshire it was reported that we had Osprey taking trout last summer. Unfortunately I didn’t witness it but will be keeping a look out this summer.
There's something special being stood waist high in the river in the summer months with a fly hatch taking place and trout and grayling gulping them down around you.
I recomend it to all.

With here a blossom sailing,
And here and there a lusty trout,
And here and there a grayling"

If you haven't seen this programme before give yourself a treat and watch it again. I hop they do the full six episodes as they are all brilliant.
I have actually got all six episodes on tape and every now and again I watch it and wonder why I packed in Angling when you see the likes of Barn Owl and Kingfishers.
John | Just read this John, I'll be on the look out for it. I normally ignore the Real Time angling programs. |

| | | Re: Passion for Angling If you didn't see tonights edition of passion for Angling you missed a treat.
It opened with a prolonged look at a Barn Owl on their local patch then they moved to Speyside after Salmon.
Whilst on Speyside we were treated to fabulous views of Buzzard, then a Common Sandpiper sitting on her eggs. This was followed by some fabulous close up views of a fishing Osprey, a Grey Wagtail with a beak full of food, followed a close up of the waiting Grey Wag chick.
On top of this was a Red Grouse followed by a very close up scene of a Golden Eagle. Add to this Roe Deer, Red Squirrel and a magical moment with a couple of Otters as well as the truly remarkable scenery of the Spey valley with the Cairngorms as a backdrop and this was one heck of a programme for wildlife lovers.

| | | Re: Passion for Angling That sounds like real angling John(not the gadget laden I must catch fish regardless attitude that a lot of anglers practise today)
I always seemed to feed more birds, see more animals than catch fish, but catch them I did!
