| | | Re: Kingfisher Diary (with photos) Thank you all so much for your kind words and very generous praise of my reports and photos to date.
I'm delighted that so many of you seem to be enjoying this thread and would love to be able to invite you all to come along and share my observations of these beautiful birds.
As several of you have said, it is a great shame about the apparent abandoning (or predation?) of the first nest and I don't suppose I shall ever discover the true reason.
However, I've visited the site again several times since my 9th May update and the birds now seem to have settled down again (with no further sightings of the 2nd male) and started the incubation of the eggs in their new nest hole. So, hopefully, hatching will be in about 18 - 21 days time but with relatively little activity for me to report on in the meantime.
I shall, of course, let you know if anything else of interest happens prior to hatching and, in the meantime, here's a shot of the female sat just below their new nest hole - I like the reflection in the water beneath her.

You're very lucky to have such an opportunity to study and photograph these birds and we're all extremely lucky to have you posting the results here for us to share. Thank you!
