| | | Re: Smew influx Perhaps they have moved further south into your area due to frozen conditions earlier in the week and last week on northern waters. The birds close to me all left as the lakes/ponds froze. |

| | | Re: Smew influx There were 19 reported on Staines Res on Sunday, after 4 the previous weekend, so it seems to be happening in Surrey too. |

| | | Re: Smew influx Anyone know what the weather is like in holland at the moment? this could also be pushing them up into Britain if there are such large numbers appearing, especially in the south-east. |

| | | Re: Smew influx It's most likely the freezing conditions on the continent that are pushing them westwards. There have been at least twenty in Suffolk over the last week or so.

I've also noticed an influx of Pintail recently, I've been struggling to miss them. Presuming no repeat sightings took place, I've seen 120 in the county this year! There not exactly rare in Winter but its surprising how numbers rise so high as the continentals arrive. |

| | | Re: Smew influx There were 19 reported last Sunday morning at Staines Reservoir, I guess the frozen lakes force them onto areas like this.

T2 | That's what the RSPB intimated on their Minsmere blog report as numbers increased during the cold snap. Saw three redheads up at Titchwell last weekend - yet to track down a drake. |
