| | | Great Crested Grebe at Radipole Lake I had another typical Blackdog day out yesterday. Lazy start to the day, what shall I do today? Lets go to Radipole Lake to see what there is...
I've driven past it literally hundreds of times, but never been in, so I thought I'd give it a go.
I'm glad I did.
I watched this bloke for ages, coming and going. He dived on one occasion and surfaced about two feet in front of me. I'm not sure which of us was more suprised!
I took the usual hundreds of frames, most of which are proably mediocre to rubbish. I'm quite pleased with this one though

| | | Re: Great Crested Grebe at Radipole Lake Thats a great shot, I've never got anywhere near that close to a Great-Crested Grebe. I'd like to go to Radipole more often, it's a nice place and the birds seem fairly tame so there are good photo opportunities. I will make sure I pay another visit soon!

| | | Re: Great Crested Grebe at Radipole Lake Thanks John and everybody else.
I should point out though, that was taken with a Canon 500 f4 IS and EOS 5D body, so, I wasn't actually as close as it looks.
But I'm still chuffed, it's definitely the best series of Grebe pictures I have ever managed.

| | | Re: Great Crested Grebe at Radipole Lake Definitely a great shot, better than anything I've ever managed, never seem to be able to get close enough, even with the Sigma 50 -500 mm lens so well done.

| | | Re: Great Crested Grebe at Radipole Lake Thanks for the comments Ian and Roger. How's the back now Roger, picking up a bit?
I have just found another one and thought you might like to have a look at. It's not brilliant, but it is quite a close head shot of a Coot. I think they get ignored a bit, 'cos you see them all over the place, but I think they are cracking little birds.
