I went there a few days ago. There was a bitterly cold wind and I didn't stop long - about 15mins! I was very surprised at how very low Startops was.

| | | Re: When will the Bitterns leave their winter sites in the south of England? I thought they were at Wilstone Reservoir, in all those reeds. Can't find where I read this though.
Also Marsworth "along the reed front".
EDIT Slap on head moment! I remember some birders looking at the reeds in the image below. I wondered what they were so excited about. I'll bet it was a Bittern. I couldn't see anything, but of course I couldn't. They are invisible after all

| | | Re: When will the Bitterns leave their winter sites in the south of England? Hi there Debs
I was all morning on sunday waiting to see the Bittern, at fishers green, lee valley, there is a bittern hide there, someone told me there were four Bittern on the Tuesday, but i did not see any.
I went back today and within five minutes i saw my first Bittern, although it was only brief. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
