| | | An introduction to birdsong I am reading Simon Barnes “Birdwatching with your eyes closed” and even though I haven’t got far into yet it’s proving really interesting. There is also a podcast which includes the bird’s calls on the website for shortbooks dot co dot uk ( I haven’t posted the link in case it’s not there for long.)
Perhaps someone can tell me which duck it is that sounds like ‘Frankie Howerd looking through a keyhole’.
I realise that I can recall the sound of skylarks with a mental image of short grass and a line of deep blue sea beyond, and of curlews across an expanse of dark sand with the sea miles off. Both mental video clips from childhood holidays, skylarks in Cornwall and curlews at Donna Nook.
All I want now is to learn what it is I am hearing. Only last week, on our local common I could hear what I knew were robins but they were all invisible!

| | | Re: An introduction to birdsong Sounds brilliant lori (no idea about the ducks, but saw some Eiders today in a collection, though they weren't calling - beautiful they were).
Anyway, if you have any more "remembralls" like the Franky Howard thing, do share as it's a fun way to learn.

I | Love it!! I always likened the call to a couple of ladies gossiping over the back fence! Until now!!!

| | | Re: An introduction to birdsong You realy have to read the book for the wealth of information and anecdote. Have just come across this in one chapter Why Birds Singlisten to the clips - fascinating.
