First smew in cheshire for a few years i think

Nice one. There are 2 in my local(ish) area just now. A red head one only about a 15 min walk from my house too. Might take the old cam down and see if I can get a pic.

I had to look up what a smew was, now I know I will look out for it, very attractive duck.

Quite scarce around here, but sometimes reported. I find them to be very shy ducks.

Not a common sight at all so, unless you live anywhere near the hotspots of places like west London/north Surrey and Dungeness, Kent, you'd be hard pushed to find them on a regular basis though they do occur elsewhere. The harder the winter the more of them there are about usually.

Same here, had to Google it- but what a pretty duck! I'd like to see one of those.

Got to see this Cheshire bird today a life tick, and yes they are cracking birds would to see a male (one I saw red head female) as have said in bird of the day, bird guides don't do them Justice they are so dainty, as well it was a pity my camera was in my bag has it moved out of range befor I could get it out (note to self alway have camera ready)
