nearest i can find is as nige says a hoodie with hood relaxed , you can just make out a yellowish base to bill so this could be it , never seen one so i'm not sure.

From pictures the bill could look a bit shorter (angles etc) and this would be a likelier sighting than a hoodie. |

| | | Re: ID help please.........duck If Adam is correct (he usually is) , may i suggest you reporting the sighting to your county bird recorder as this is a bit of a rarity with only one or two records a year in the uk  good find. |

I think there's only been one accepted record of this species from Shetland. The long-staying Dorset bird was rejected though that remains a contentious issue with some birders not agreeing with the official decsion. Always a problem with attractive wildfowl that are not uncommon in collections as to the validity of these records.
