| | | Unidentified bird Firth of Clyde I can't figure this one out - It's about 300 yards away taken at 400mm sorry for the poor quality image. Any ideas |

| | | Re: Unidentified bird Firth of Clyde Difficult. (For me at least!) Could be a Red-throated diver, the winter colours pretty well match this with the white face. There again a Great Northern diver colours also are very similar. The apparent slimness of the bill makes me go for the Red-throated.
There's a 99% chance I'm wrong! |

| | | Re: Unidentified bird Firth of Clyde Black throated Diver was my thought but I've seen very few of them and I've never identified one in winter plumage. Good day out today - several slavonian grebes too. |

| | | Re: Unidentified bird Firth of Clyde I reckon this is a Red-throated Diver. They usually hold their heads with the bill pointing slightly upwards, like this one. Lots of white on the face and neck, and no white patch on the rear flank (which Black-throated often show) also suggest Red-throated. |

| | | Re: Unidentified bird Firth of Clyde It was mainly the bill that made me go for the Red-throated. The Black-throated seem to be straighter and thicker set. |

| | | Re: Unidentified bird Firth of Clyde Thanks everyone - red throated diver seems to be the consensus. Second time I've been confused by divers and sorted out on here. Last one turned out to be a great northern on a highland loch | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
