Heard singing today

While out for a walk across some open fields today i was surprised to hear a skylark singing away. After scouring the blue sky i got a visual on the fella.
is it early to be doing this? the weather was bright sunshine frosy and still (snow forecast for tonight though)

No skylark often start to sing around January in small numbers, warm clear days are the best for it. Certainly plenty of birds starting to get territorial around here with males getting quite aggressive.

Birds pair up this time of year and become territorial, start looking for suitable prospective nest sites

Skylarks have been singing here for a good few weeks but I think the snow might put them off today!
