European Stonechat is now Saxicola rubicola, after the species was split.

| | | re: Help with Bird Identification 1st winter bird too, im finding very few older birds this winter. Last winter had a huge impact on them locally. Already a few birds appearing to be colonising new areas for this years breeding season, so hopefully a recovery will occur. Nice photo. |

| | | re: Help with Bird Identification Yes Roy now you mention it I was aware of that change, but the reference I used, Collins Bird Guide 2nd addition, has it as Saxicola torquatus as do the RSPB and the BTO so I think I might be forgiven that lapse in memory.
The BOU, BBRC and Wikipedia are ‘up-to-date’ with Saxicola rubicola so it seems there is some confusion, disagreement or lack of website management.

Personally I think that it would make sense if the old species name was used for any of the 'new' species when a species was split (the currently accepted naming rules can easily cause confusion).
