| | | Woodpecker in garden........How?? Afternoon all,
we are lucky to get some great visitors to the garden, just spotted the goldcrest again this morning, but one I have on my list is a woodpecker, I know they are about as we hear them in the spring and neighbours say they often see them in thier gardens, alas I have not.
Got the usual feeders out, sunflowers hearts, mixed seed, nuts suet balls etc.
Any tips to get them in to my patch??
Thanks |

| | | Re: Woodpecker in garden........How?? My grandfather used to get both Great and lesser spotted woodpeckers in his garden in woodland near Northumberland. They used to come and eat peanuts from a standard metal mesh feeder suspended on a rope between 2 poles.
Not a lot of help I know, but at least you know they'll eat peanuts |

| | | Re: Woodpecker in garden........How?? My Mum is lucky enough to get both the Green and the Greater Spotted, but her garden does back on to a field some ancient woodland. The GSW feeds on her nut feeder and suet balls. The Greeny potters around on her lawn.
I dont think you can really encourage them to a garden, but they are quite skittish so if your feeders are too near a door or window they may not feel safe. Good luck |

| | | Re: Woodpecker in garden........How?? We get Green and Great Spotted, the Great Spotted loves fat and suet hung in a container as well as peanuts.
Never seen the Green on a feeder, they are usually seen on the path or lawn in the summer eating Ants. |

| | | Re: Woodpecker in garden........How?? Think everyone has covered the ways to try and attract them! Peanuts in a large wire mesh feeder and suet or fat balls will help attract them. Try and put them on a branch if possible in a quiet part of your garden near a tree if possible.

| | | Re: Woodpecker in garden........How?? I get Greater Spotted Woodpeckers visiting sometimes, nearly always on the peanut feeder in a tree, sometimes on the suet ball feeder in the same tree.
Regards, Audrey. |
