| | | Bluetits nesting For about 3 weeks now we have had 2 and sometimes 3 bluetits at the same time visiting the nesting box morning and afternoon. I do not know if it is the same birds each time but was wondering if they somehow leave a signature to say the box is taken.
Can anyone help. |

| | | Re: Bluetits nesting I've noticed bluetit visitors to a nesting box already as well. It's happened in past years as well though, and doesnt guarantee that they will actually nest in that particular spot. I think they spend quite a bit of time visiting different possible nesting sites before they finally make their minds up. |

| | | Re: Bluetits nesting I put up a nesting box in a tree on Saturday. Noticed blue tits checking it out on Sunday.
Let's hope the early interest leads to occupation in the spring! |

| | | Re: Bluetits nesting for the past 2 years we've had Blue tits both nest in and successfully fledge from our nest box. I thought I'd left putting up the nestbox too late the first year as it wasn't until march, but it still got used successfully.
Last year the interest in the box seemed to start around about late February.
This year however for the past 3 weeks or so, a pair of blue tits have been very active in and around the nest box, and this weekend one was seen on several occasions taking in some small amounts of new nesting material. Whether this is for overwintering in, or whether they're planning an early brood remains to be seen. |

| | | Re: Bluetits nesting It's probable that they are using the nest box to roost at this time. This time of year is the only time our nest box receives any interest from said blue tits, it is totally ignored in spring.
Cheers. Nik.
