| | | I've gone feeder mad! After seeing sooooo many birds in the garden over the weekend, I went out yesterday & stocked up!
I bought:-
Another multi-feeder station. (£19.99)
Niger seed & a Bill Oddie Niger seed feeder (it was the only one they had, £8.99 paying for the name I guess!)
2x Suet block feeders & Gourmet fat Feast with extra raisins & mealworms to go in them.
A 3.6kg bag of mixed wild seed for £2.99 (much more like it!)
Bag of Sunflower hearts, bag of mealworms, another fat ball feeder & a few more seed feeders.
£50 all told but hopefully, very much worth it!
Some of the feeders are hung in the apple tree & I'll put the other feeder station up later.
I'm hoping the niger seed will attract some different birds into the garden.
There is a garden around here that reports on Berksbirds that they get Redpoll & Mealy Redpoll on their niger seed, so fingers crossed!
For those that have been following my Red Kite thread, still no sign of them!

Have you tried a feeder that only holds sunflower hearts or black sunflower seeds? They seem to be a magnet for greenfinches and now bullfinches (plus the golds and siskins go to them when the niger one is busy). |

Its a waste of money I think but I wish you more luck, I am going to grow teasle as this might attract them more. |

| | | Re: I've gone feeder mad! Good on you Cordaline. Sounds great.
My lovely late wife and I always casually feed the birds in the garden.
But Sunnydale got me started formally in November 2009 with a feeding station. With a peanut feeder and a seed feeder on it.
That started me off!
Now I've got 5 feeding stations, (small tree branches etc), with eight feeders on them. Peanuts, fat balls and seeds. Plus fruit and meat and fat cuttings I put out on the grass.
And I have constant flow of birds in the garden. My favs are the Goldfinches, (nyger seed feeder), plus the two pairs of Bue Tits. And the Great Spotted Woodpeckers that bred locally last year and are here everyday.
Sunnydale is down over the coming weekend and I hope the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and Green Woodpecker that have been lurking very close put in an appearance for her. They may well do, she has a way with birds. The only Jay I've had here for some years was when she was down a couple of times ago.
But no Red Kites for me Coraldine. I do hope you get some to tell us about.
By the way. I've been getting 20kg bags of bird seed for £8.95 locally! A very special offer. Got to go out soon so will check for another one.
Cheers,
Bryan

Well done Cordaline and all that feed.
And don't forget to clean, change water, be vigilant and be prepared. One thing I never realised was that I must clean under the feeder, as I never realised that the saliva can be concentrated here, where some birds feed on the scraps.

The flock at my old house was so big, I had to refill it almost every day!
I have got Goldfinches lurking but hardly ever see them.
Hopefully the extra feeders will attract them!

Not a chance with the Pigeons scooping up the leftovers!
