| | Little Egrets inland I supose theis is not a suprise to many of you but while on my way to the town of Chard in south Somerset I noticeda little egret in a field at least a mile from a body of water several hundred yards further on my wife noticed another. Have these birds become more common here in England and the west country?

| | | Re: Little Egrets inland Yes the species is now an established breeder in southern Britain. It is not unusual to find them away from water, where they forage for invertebrates in open areas. |

| | | Re: Little Egrets inland Just a thought...any chance these were Cattle Egrets? As soon as I saw "Somerset" that was the first thing that came to mind. |

| | | Re: Little Egrets inland About identification, we we in the car so a realy good look was not possible, it was the outline of the birds that gave away the fact they were egrets The position on google maps is50degrees 55'40.45" north 2degrees 56'40.53 west should you wish to find it find start at the north end of Chard Somerset and follow the A358 road north past a road on the right marked watery ln aqnd before you reach a road marked A303 the field is on the right. I just love google maps

| | | Re: Little Egrets inland I wondered about Cattles because they've had quite a presence in Somerset over the last couple of years (even breeding) and they definitely feature in fields. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
