I saw a golden eagle on Monday (30/01/2012). It was sitting on a fence post on the M1 motorway one and half miles north of junction 39. I reported it to South Yorkshire police as I assumed it was an escaped bird. Seems like this bird has been in the area a while. With respect to the Jack Russell, I have been told a very similar story by a game keeper on Skye. Eagle grabs dog, dog bites eagle, eagle lets dog go.

This sounds like the new RSPB Drone they have been secretly testing to counter all the recent dog disturbance on their reserves.

If this story is made up that one thing (it seems unlikely as the people did not want to be identified and I think most who contact the press want a little bit of notoriety; though the point made about the dog should have the evidence of the attack is valid).

If the story is true then I think we should be taking it seriously. Wouldn't any of us with a small pet be similarly concerned if it was attacked as described here?

I don't think belittling the report or the person's ability to identify the bird does WAB any favours.

Interesting to find this thread. My husband and son both believe they've seen an eagle too but we're in North Yorkshire. We have buzzards and kites around but this bird was huge and very dark brown they said. Anyone else seen anything similiar?

seriously challenges the credibility of the report as theres no way even an eagle would be trying to take a dog from its owners arms - that smacks of the journo say "riight, how can we make this more dramatic"
