I wouldn't like to say based on these photos.

Could be Herring or Common Gull (it's difficult to gauge size).

Common Gull was my thought, but not totally convinced yet.

Plumage and structure are more suggestive of common in my opinion.

I tend to get about 1 common to 50 herring when seawatching up here.

I was not confident posting what I thought the id of the gull was but I'm pleased to see my first thoughts- Common Gull seem to get the vote.
I may deep my toe in the water next time!

I also agree with Common Gull as by far the most likely ID, with the righthand photo especially convincing - so that seems to make in unanimous (though I don't believe we can say that this ID is certain).
My excuse for not saying this straight off is that I had only viewed the images on my phone screen!

There's never any harm in having a go - and if you do get an ID wrong someone may then tell you want the differences are (especially if you say why you thought it was something else

).

...and if you do get something wrong (like we all do sometimes) you can always post again later, saying "Oh yes, of course it is" and adding an 'embarassment smilie' (

)!
