Bird ID Help Please

Seen on south downs 8th Jan

#1 Mistle or Song Thrush (think the former)

#2 Never seen one before (help!)

No.1 Mistle thrush. (Spots and slightly larger than song thrush)

No.2 ?? Dont know. Looks like a female blackbird, female Ring Ouzel maybe??
Must be a bird of the Thrush family surely?

No.2 Juvenile Ring ouzel. Very nice, i've never seen one, it's one of my bogey birds.

Ring Ouzel is a really good winter find as it's usually a summer visitor to our shores, though there are occasional winter sightings like yours. I'd send your record with date, site, recorder name + your photo to your local bird recorder.

I'll try the bird recoder listed on the BTO then.

He might also be interested in the Short-eared owl we saw circling high up; very odd assumed it was a Kite or something at the time. Not the best of shots but you can se what it is.
