| | | Unknown Goose Hi folks,
during our walk around Farlington Marshes (nr. Portsmouth, Hampshire) yesterday afternoon we spotted a pale goose feeding in a field with a mixed flock of Canada Geese and Brent Geese. Does anyone know what species this is? I'm guessing it's either domestic (although I seem to recall reading that many domestic geese breeds don't fly?) or a hybrid of some sort. Apologies for the photo; it was a reasonable distance away.
Cheers,
Marc. |

| | | Re: Unknown Goose I'm taking a guess here Marc but it could be a cross between a domestic and a greylag. I belive that domestics were bred from greylags in the first place so it could also be the offspring of domestic escapees that is reverting to type. Just like escaped fancy pigeons tend to revert to the rock dove type over a few generations of random breeding in the wild.
