Saw this fishing competition taking place at Christmas - who do you think the winner would be





This was the centre of Berlin in a busy tourist area but it idn't seem to mind the attention






After these another group went to it and had their photos taken too

Whenever I see them they always fly off as soon as they hear or see you

The Herons at my local garden centre do pretty much the same thing

Its either real or remote control

A lot of grey heron in Berlin.Breed in local parks and the zoo which is near the centre.

This was outside the catherdral at the opposite end of the city centre

Big drop to the river though so no good for wading(or paddling)

Yes, indeed - here's one on a rail bridge over the River Spree:

Obviously the bird uses the bridge as a lookout for food in the river down below .... but it's not averse to taking food from humans passing over the bridge!

I think I was more nervous approaching this one in Berlin than the bird was of me!

That's a big bill - anyone ever been caught by one?

Haha that's cool. The ones in Regents park are like that. You could almost pick them up. The most surreal thing I saw was an old woman sitting on a bench feeding them slices of bread. There was at least half a dozen of them round her including 2 on the actual bench right beside her My cam had just run out of battery too I really wanted to get a pic.
