Now on 56. Unless I see a Sparrowhawk likely to stay on that figure until Saturday. | We were at Bushy for a little, looks like you had all the birds your end! |

Can't believe I still haven't got Treecreeper- 2 days in good places for them. Also dipped on Little Owl, Kingfisher + Skylark. Conversely I've now seen 2 possibly 3 (may have had one twice today) Buzzards around London + no Sparrowhawk yet.
Oh well back to work tomorrow but Titchwell to look forward to on Saturday- hope weather's kind! |

Oh well back to work tomorrow but Titchwell to look forward to on Saturday- hope weather's kind! | I've not really been out searching, but am surprised not to see any raptors as yet. Hoping for a trip to Staines before work some time so hopefully I'll get one or two then. Good luck with Titchwell! Lucky you!

Im actually on 25 as I forgot the ring necked parakeets that flew over when I got back to the car park. No mistaking their silhouette and call even if the sun was setting! |

| | | Re: Birding 2012 Year List! I clocked up 16 new species on a trip to Shapwick Heath - nothing out of the ordinary.
It wasn't so long ago that the only birds of prey seen over motorways were kestrels. Today I racked up seven buzzards, four red kites and only two kestrels. A further three buzzards at Shapwick took me to ten for the day.
I had a few "nearlys" today. A flock of thrushes seen in silhouette which could well have been fieldfares. Something seen from the corner of my eye flitting between two patches of reed might have been a water rail. It was the right size and definitely wasn't a coot or moorhen. Finally, a distant egret seen briefly dipping into a reed bed in the middle of a hail storm. Someone said that, from it's size, they thought it might have been a great white egret but no one saw it clearly enough to be sure. Then, as I was heading back to the car after sunset an egret flew over the trees ahead while I was desperately trying to get my bins on it and see if it had yellow socks on. I couldn't be sure so I've not ticked either.
I also heard Cetti's and tawny owl but some meanie says I can't count them! Which leaves me on 24. Better than last year!
