This year, I really hope to be able to tick them off! Kingfisher & Puffin
Fingers crossed for this year!

Fingers crossed for this year! | Kingfisher is one of those birds that has so far eluded me as well, and I've not managed a good view of a Puffin as yet.
I don't really have any target number of species in mind, but Kingfisher, Ptarmigan and Dotterel are 3 I've wanted to see for a while.
On my travels south next year, I'd love to see a Nuthatch, we don't get them up here.
Regards, Audrey. |

| | | Re: Birding 2012 Year List! It seems like the majority want to go with the BOU list and I would be another that would prefer this list.
Just to add another point if I may and that is to list on this thread only birds seen not heard only.
I also echo Neils sentiments in giving your full totals at the start of the year but only highlighting the lesser common species.
Have a great bird filled New Year folks.

It's certainly not something that has been specified in any previous posts, and was never specified as a 'rule' on the 2011 thread.
I will continue to do this, but if preferred will list the total on here as "X + X heard only" (for the record there were none on my 2011 list that I didn't see at some point during the year).

| | | Re: Birding 2012 Year List! 42 so far. 2 hours at Brent, then two more species on a run round the park.
Nowt special; one nice one missed as I still don't know how to ID the rarer gulls. But there's always tomorrow.
PS Number one was an unknown gull in flight before dawn, 1st properly ID'd species was a Starling.
