| | | The Mystery Garden Moorhen! Hi again
I earlier posted about a mystery bird in the garden and was swiftly informed that it was a juvenile moorhen. The post has since been deleted but I would just like to thank the people who replied and helped me find out what it was.
Just a few other questions: Should we try to return the moorhen to a pond (there are quite a few parks with ponds in round here and we suspect she came from one of them now) or will she, once she's ready return on her own accord?
Also, do you know why my other post was removed? Did have something to do with me putting 4 photos in it?
Thanks again for all your help. |

Unfortunately your previous post was removed because it contained links to external images.

| | | Re: The Mystery Garden Moorhen! As long as your bird is fit and healthy it can fly to any water as and when it chooses. It has clearly found your garden to its liking and may continue to come back while there is food for it. Don't interfere, just enjoy having a Moorhen in your garden - many of us never have that privilege!
Just because we are used to seeing Moorhen on ponds, lakes and canals does not mean they are glued there all the time: they are birds and can fly and walk and frequently do turn up some way from water!

| | | Re: The Mystery Garden Moorhen! Remember last years hard winter! We had a Moorhen in the garden for about 2 months! The nearest body of water is about 1 mile away.
This bird entertained us by perching on the fence and living under a Rhododendron bush.
When the hard times were over, it moved on!
Here's a photo from last year, when it moved up to our feeders.
